Sporting CP have announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Beatriz Cameirão, with the 25-year-old joining the club after terminating her contract with Benfica.

Cameirão has signed a contract with Sporting until 2029 and becomes another experienced addition to the club’s women’s first team.

The midfielder arrives with extensive experience in Portuguese women’s football, as well as valuable European experience from her time competing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Sporting Add Experienced Portuguese Midfielder

Cameirão is primarily a central midfielder and is particularly comfortable playing as a No.8, although she can also operate as a No.6.

Speaking to Sporting CP’s official media, the new signing explained that she enjoys the defensive side of the game while also valuing the freedom that playing as a No.8 provides.

She described herself as a midfielder who likes to contribute defensively, maintain balance within the team and also attack, arrive in the box and take opportunities to shoot.

That versatility could give Sporting additional tactical flexibility in midfield.

From Benfica to Sporting

Cameirão joins Sporting following her departure from Benfica, where she developed significant experience in the Liga BPI.

Before her time with Benfica, she also represented SF Damaiense, establishing herself as a familiar name within Portuguese women’s football.

Her move to Sporting therefore represents a significant domestic transfer between two of Portugal’s leading women’s football clubs.

European Experience

One of the key assets Cameirão brings to Sporting is her experience at European level.

The 25-year-old has already played in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, giving her experience of competing against some of the strongest teams in European women’s football.

Cameirão believes that experience can now help her make an immediate contribution to Sporting.

She also highlighted her ability to adapt quickly to new environments, expressing confidence that the Sporting squad, coaching staff and wider structure will help her settle into the team.

A Footballing Background

Cameirão was born in Reguengos de Monsaraz and began playing football at Atlético SC, the club from her hometown.

Football has been a major part of her life from an early age, having grown up in a family with a strong footballing background.

Away from football, Cameirão has also studied Sport Sciences and has a number of musical interests, including playing guitar and saxophone and singing.

Her sporting education adds another dimension to a player who has already developed considerable experience on the pitch.

Cameirão’s Message to Sporting Fans

The new Sporting midfielder has already called on supporters to get behind the women’s team during the upcoming season.

Cameirão said she wants the team to give everything on the pitch and to represent the Sporting shirt with commitment in every match.

She also expressed her hope of seeing supporters at the Academia, the stadium and wherever the team plays throughout the season.

Beatriz Cameirão looks like a strong addition to Sporting’s midfield.
